Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a single-stranded RNA virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). SARS-CoV-2 has several structural proteins and the spike (S) protein facilitates virus attachment and fusion with host cell membrane, thus, allowing to bind to angiotensin- converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor. This allows virus particles to enter cells and triggers the viral lifecycle.
